The Life of Gail L. Smith-Carr
Mrs. Gail Lanier Smith-Carr was born June 6th, 1965 in Telfair County to the late Austin and Mary Alice Smith. She was the oldest of four children. Gail was a native of Jacksonville, GA. She graduated from Telfair County High School with honors.Gail confessed to Christ at an early age at MT Dollaway AME. She later joined Life Changing Word Ministries. She was employed with the United States Postal Service and had been there 30 plus years. Her hobbies were reading, traveling, spending time with family and advocating social justice issues near and far. She was a wife, mother, sister, auntie, nana, and a survivor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer on January, 30th, 2015. Despite the anguish and pain she didn’t complain. Gail was a strong black woman who stood up for equal and fair justice. She was the secretary of the local NAACP. She also served as a chairperson for the Dodge Democrat Party and a partner with black voters matters. She tapped into the strength Christ gave her. Her plans for her life were to fight until the end for her life, fight for fairness, fight for our rights to vote at a time such as now. Her mission in life was to help others, whether giving them the truth, shedding light, and driving out darkness in this world. She will truly be missed and her memories and love will forever be cherished.
She was preceded in death by; her parents; Austin and Mary Alice Smith; siblings, Austin Smith Jr and Georgina Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her loving husband, Demetrius Thomas Carr; daughters, Sherika (Gerald) Williams of Douglas, GA and Taja Mapp of Eastman, GA; sister, Dychandra (Manuel) Smith of Eutawville, SC; nephews, Damarius Hollie of Augusta, GA and Kyran Butler of Jacksonville, GA; nieces, Anadia (Michael) McCoy of Hopkinsville, KY, Shantavia (Jacquez) Bolden of Douglas, GA, Mya (Devonte) Bass of Alapaha, GA, Adriana Jackson of Douglas, GA; grandchildren, Amaryi, Malachi, Gerald Jr, Janiah, Bless, Christian, Messiah, and Mecca; a God-son, Brendan Morris of Columbus, GA; a special son, Sergio Carr of Warner Robins, GA and Bryce Roberson; and a special cousin, Mary Joyce Wilcox of Mcrae, GA; mother-in-law, JoAnn Carr of Eastman, GA; and a brother-in-law, Carlos Carr of Eastman, GA. Gail lived a very fruitful life in which she leaves a huge host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and associates who will greatly miss her.
